Financial Literacy Program for Kids

Hi Hello Yamisweeters!

Vacation for students is near! Yehey!  As parents, we plan for our kid's school break.  Something that will make them busy and enjoyable.  This summer, Galileo Enrichment Learning Program has a good offer this summer.

As a parent, it's too important that an early age we should teach good money management skills.  I think,  it's one way to solve poverty in the Philippines.  We should all know what is Money and how it affects our life. According sa nabasa ko, if you can't control your income, you must control your expenses.  And that is the easiest way. Cashflow Management is the secret.  That's why learning the laws of money is a vital learning for our kids.  Para din yan sa atin pagdating ng panahon. They will be financially independent and we can enjoy more of our retirement. (haha!)  So, this is the opportunity to introduce money management to our kids as early as first grader.  The Program consist of the following modules:

The children will learn about the importance of earning an income

The children will know the basic concepts of budgeting

The children will know the importance of savings

Module 4: Emergency Fund

 The children will name different types of personal and family emergencies

Module 5: Spending Money Wisely

The children will compare and contrast the price and quality of goods

Module 6: Invisible Money

The children will know different forms of credit and tell the consequences of not being able to pay debts

Module 7: Making Money

The Children will know the basic principles and purposes of investments.

Seeing the need to inculcate good money management skills early in Filipino kids, Galileo

Enrichment Learning Program, Inc. in collaboration with our partner Pru Life UK - pioneer and current market leader of unit-linked or investment-linked life insurance products, adopts their Cha-Ching* Financial Literacy Program as one of the 2015 Galileo's Summer Program Offering.

This program will be given for FREE (every Saturday of April and May) as an add-value program for Galileo students ages 7 to 12, who will enroll either in Math, English or Singapore Math this summer, come April and May 2015 . 

The program instills good money habits through the concepts of Earn, Save, Spend, Donate & Invest. At the end of the program, the teachers, together with their students, are expected to master the fundamentals of money management and the need to be financially literate as young as they are now to help them plan their own financially-sound future.

8 Secrets of the Truly Rich:11th of my Books to read

Finally, I found time to post my review about my 11th books to read.  Busy eh! At palagi namang busy, kailangan lang talagang isingit sa schedule ang mga bagay na nakakapagpasaya sa akin.  Like this thing, sharing my thoughts about what I have read.

8 Secrets of the Truly Rich is another book of Bo Sanchez .  You know why I love reading Bro. Bo's books?  Because, it is easy to read yet so inspiring at nakakabrainwash talaga. Nakaka-enlighten ng faith and belief plus madami talaga akong natututunan. He has a lot of stories that I can totally relate and can understand easily.

This book enlightened my views concerning wealth.  Parang Robert Kiyosaki's Rich Dad Poor Dad.  It is true that this book will change your inner software.  I gained right attitude towards wealth with spirituality.  I got some tips on how to achieve financial success na dream ko naman talaga.  He explained that dreaming to be rich or wealthy is not equal to materialism.  Being truly rich is being wealthy in all other areas of life: love, family and spirituality. 

Bro. Bo shared the 8 Secrets, so it's no longer a secret now. Haha! And here are some of the principles he shared.

"You become what you repeatedly do.  You become poor because you have a poor man's money habits." 
  
"At the end of the day, who you are doesn't count.  It's who you think you are that determines your success."

"God needs godly people who will run businesses, give jobs, and bless the world with great services and great products."

"By writing you dreams, you open yourself to life's river of abundance.  But when you read what you wrote down daily, you multiply the power of that river tenfold."

"The universe adjusts to your expectations.  So instead of you searching for money, let money search for you. Attract money.  Become a money magnet."

"Famine will always come.  So prepare for it."

"The greatest income reducer in your life right now may be your TV set."

To know more about these principles, go grab and read this book.  Hindi kayo magsisisi na binasa nyo ito. He cited step by step guide how to be financially and spiritually healthy.   It will help you realize how money works to live a LIFE not make a living.

Bro. Bo ended his book with an advice.

"Keep learning.  Read books on money.  Attend seminars on money.  Get mentors and financial coaches."

Remember: You create your future by your choice today!

Syempre naman, totoo naman talaga yun at alam nating lahat na nasa choice natin ang future natin.  Pero ano ba ang choice natin?  Stay poor or be truly rich?  Minsan kasi feeling natin rich na tayo, kasi nakakakain na tayo sa fine dining, we travel, we wear branded clothes, we have the latest gadget, we have cars, we live in condominium, we meet friends at Starbucks.  Pero ano nga ba ang sukatan ng wealth?

Since me and my hubby already read this book, we have the same level of thinking about wealth.  We realized that the measure of wealth is how long can we survive without a job.  Can we travel to Europe for two months?  Can I just stay at home and focus on parenting my children?  Can we retire at age forty and enjoy life together?  Can I still give tithes even without a job? Of course naman ay hindi.  Kapag nag travel kami sa Europe in two months, naku! wala na akong trabaho na babalikan.  Nakahanap na ng kapalit ang company na pinagtatrabahuhan ko.  Hindi ako pwedeng tumigil sa pagtatrabaho kasi papano ang mga loans ko.  Huhuhu! We are so poor because our financial literacy is not enough.  We spend a lot for things that are not so valuable.  Haaayy!  Reality bites! Awwwww!

Learning really matters.  It's not late to be financially literate but it has to come up with spirituality.

Happy Friday Yamisweeters!  The first week of February is almost done.  (ka-bilis!!!!) Well, that's why we should make our day as productive as it should be. Some of you are thinking of sweet present for our husband, boyfriend, friends, parents and siblings.  For me, one of the best we can ever give to someone special to us is the "good relationship".  One that is deep and strong.

Last night during my "me time", I've assessed myself and realized that I am complaining more about my husband's working time.  I recalled that I am expressing my disappointment how my husband is taking for granted his health because of his challenging job.  I noticed that, when I meet a person he knows, I can't help myself but to express my worries how he is spending most of his time WORKING..WORKING...WORKING...  In short,  I am not satisfied with his time management. Huh! So, disgusting- what kind of wife I am? Am I a discouraging wife or an encouraging one?

I am sharing this blog of Pastor's Wife.  I think it will help a married person(like me) assess ourselves on how to deal with this kind of situation and improve relationships.

I think that it is safe to say that the toughest battle a woman will face is insecurity. The longer that I am married and experiencing life as a wife and a pastor’s wife, I begin to understand one of the most reoccurring and significant battles a man will face is discouragement. Sometimes a man can dwell in this place of discouragement for too long and needs a wife that will infuse him with courage and remind him to not allow discouragement to take residence, but to be treated as a visitor that comes and goes.
It’s easy to be a discouraging wife and not realize your behavior is actually weakening your husbands faith and stripping him of any courage to go after his dreams, strive to reach his goals, and work hard to become better husband, father, and spiritual leader.
Here are 7 tell tale signs that you are a discouraging wife-and how to change it:
1. A Discouraging Wife Reminds her Husband of the Risk: When he wants to step out and try something new she is quick to show him the danger. Her words caution him to the point that he remains stagnant. He won’t seek a new job, start a new hobby, or become a more active spiritual leader. He will begin to feel unfulfilled and stuck in a safe routine. An Encouraging Wife Reminds her Husband of the Reward: She pushes him to step out and continually reminds him of the reward that awaits. She feeds him the courage he needs to initiate something new. He feels motivated and confident to seek a new job or begin a new ministry.
“Without good direction, people lose their way; the more wise counsel you follow, the better your chances.” (The Message) Proverbs 11:14
2. A Discouraging Wife is Critical and Insulting. She is the first to point out his flaws and the negative effect he has on people. She reminds him of his insecurities and deficiencies. Sometimes she even jokes about his flaws and mishaps in front of others. This leaves him feeling alone and unsupported. He will feel that you are no longer his safe place. An Encouraging Wife Compliments and Honors. She praises him in private and in front of to others. She tells him specifically what she admires about his character, personality, and work. She reminds him of his positive effect on others and the success he has had in the past. He feels that his burdens are always shared with his wife. She is his safe place and the strength that keeps him moving forward toward his goals and dreams.
“The tongue can bring death or life;
those who love to talk will reap the consequences.” Proverbs 18:21
3. A Discouraging Wife keeps Record of Wrongs. She reminds him of past failures and that any future attempts of his will only end in repeated failure. She remembers his shortcomings and replays them for him often. She holds to his account every word, argument, and insult that he has made. An Encouraging Wife keeps Record of Success. She is quick to remind him of his times of success and achievement. Her words fuel him with power to continue reaching and trying. She remembers his times of triumph and refers back to his achievement to encourage him to remain diligent. She doesn’t allow past arguments or ill spoken words to resurface.
“Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.” 1 Corinthians 13:4,5
4. A Discouraging Wife Complains. She is quick to point out all that she is unhappy with. Nothing is enough to satisfy her. He can’t help enough or do enough to please her. An Encouraging Wife Appreciates. She is content and thankful for her husband’s hard work and involvement with the family.
“Do everything without complaining or arguing” Philippians 2:14
5. A Discouraging Wife Hears, but doesn’t Listen. She hears what her husband has to say about his job, family, or friends when he is venting and emotional, but she is often too busy to truly listen and she disregards his stress. She continues with her activities or changes the subject to what interests her instead of acknowledging his difficulty. She minimizes his troubles and dismisses the opportunity to comfort and reassure him. An Encouraging Wife Listens. She empathizes with his troubles and allows herself to truly share in his feelings. She makes it her priority to respond with honesty and help. She prays for her husband in times of distress. She gives him a new and positive perspective concerning his struggles.
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galations 6:2
6. A Discouraging Wife doesn’t let her husband lead. She questions his leadership and doubts his decisions. She doesn’t trust his discernment. She refuses to submit to him as head of the house. An Encouraging Wife will trust the judgement of her husband. She will follow the final decision of her husband as the head of the house. She is confident that he can hear from the Holy Spirit regarding important issues and the direction for the family.
“For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything.” Ephesians 5:22-24
Remember that a Word of Encouragement during a failure is worth more than an hour of praise after success.
I hope that this post is an encouragement to be the wife that your husband needs and desires.

Today I just wanna share a very sensible story from Bo Sanchez.  You know, I'm so addicted with Bo Sanchez's books.  Nakaka-inspire eh at saka nakakabait. Hihihi!  I wish this will enlighten you also.

Do You Want Golden Eggs

Or Golden Chickens?

Don't count your eggs until the chicken's laid them.

          One day, a huge alien ship arrived on planet Earth.

          The aliens on the ship surveyed humankind and were so moved by the poverty they saw.  They pitied the poor so much, they decided to help. They left behind one of their very special chickens.

          Looking around, the aliens chose Mang Pong, a very poor farmer, to receive their wonderful gift. In the middle of the night, they teleported this chicken to the backyard of Mang Pong. And in a blink of an eye, the ship rocketed away to a far distant galaxy.

          When Mang Pong woke up the next morning, he discovered the strange-looking feathered creature at the back of his little hut. 

          "Where did that weird animal come from?” Mang Pong asked. "It's extra-large and has golden-colored wings!”

          But then something even weirder happened. When the chicken stood up, Mang Pong saw a shiny egg underneath it, glimmering under the sun. The chicken just laid a golden egg!

          Boy, was Mang Pong excited.

          He rushed out, sold the golden egg, and bought lots of food, new clothes, and new furniture for his tiny house. Life was great that day!

          The following month, Mang Pong couldn't believe his eyes. Because the chicken laid another golden egg! So he ran to town, sold again the golden egg, and bought an iPod, a laptop, a jacuzzi, and a 60-inch LED TV. Ah yes, life was becoming very sweet for Mang Pong.

          And when the third month came, he already expected the egg.  And he sold the golden egg and bought more stuff.

          But the next day, Mang Pong grew very impatient. He realized that he had to wait for another month for the next egg. But he wanted buy his own personal helicopter and his very own private helipad. He badly needed more golden eggs!

          And then he had a brilliant idea—or so he thought.

          You see, Mang Pong wasn't very bright.

          He said, "Where are these eggs coming from? From inside the chicken!” 

          So he grabbed the alien chicken, got his sharpest knife, and cut it open.

          But alas, Mang Pong didn't find a single golden egg inside.

          And the alien chicken was now dead!

          Mang Pong cried at the loss of his chicken and all her golden eggs.

          And slowly, the farmer had to sell his clothes, his furniture, his iPod, his laptop, his jacuzzi, and his wide-screen TV.

          And in a year, the farmer became very poor again.

          One day, as he walked around town depressed, he met one person who had become very rich. And the man was thanking him profusely. 

          "Why are you thanking me?” he asked.

          "Remember the golden egg you sold me?” he said.

          "Yes, of course,” Mang Pong said.

          "Well, the egg hatched…” he said. 

           "What do you mean the egg hatched?” the farmer asked.

          "I placed it in an incubator. After 12 months of care, it hatched and out came a chicken.  A very special chicken. It's extra-large and has golden wings. But more importantly, it lays golden eggs!”

          Mang Pong could only stare in disbelief. 

          Every egg he sold—given the right conditions—could have become a chicken!

          Oh, if only he kept the eggs and made it hatch—then he would have had many chickens laying golden eggs for him every day.

          After many years, the alien ship returned to planet Earth. 

          They were happy to discover some had become wealthy.

          The rich were those who owned chickens that laid golden eggs. 

          But they were also sad that many remained poor, including Mang Pong.

Money or Money Machines?

          This is the story of many poor people.

          The poor prefer golden eggs (money) rather than the chicken that lays them (money machines).

          Remember this lesson: Every golden egg has a chicken inside. 

          Do you have money right now?

          Inside every coin and paper bill is a money machine.

          You just need to "incubate” it for some time. 

          So you always have a choice. 

          You can "spend” the egg or you can make the egg become a chicken.

Blessing or Burden?

          How many of you are praying for a house? 

          How many of you are praying for a car?

          Do you want to make that happen?

          I'll teach you to adjust your prayer.

          Don't just pray for a house or a car.

          Because if you do, this is what will happen:

          Mike says, "Lord, give me a car!”

          And kaboom, the car appears in front of him.

          "Praise the Lord!” Mike says. 

          But in no time, he'll have more needs.

          Very quickly, he'll be praying, "Lord, give me gas!”

          Soon, he'll also pray, "Lord, give me money for the tune up and change oil.”

          The car that was a blessing has become a burden. 

          Remember: Money without money machines are not blessings but burdens. 

          Because the things that you buy with your money need more money to maintain them.

          Here's how you should pray for a house and a car.

          "Lord, give me a money machine so that I can buy a house and car!”

          The money machine should come first.

          The liabilities should come later.

Spend vs. Incubate?

          Your golden eggs—if you incubate them—can become chickens.

          Your money—if you don't spend it—but incubate it—can become a money machine. 

          We've been brainwashed with a wrong spirituality: We've made God the chicken.  We've made Him our money machine.

          But from experience, God doesn't give money.

          He gives us money machines that will give the money.

          God wants to provide money machines for you.

          Here are the different types of money machines: (1) job, (2) self-employment, (3) paper investments, (4) businesses, and (5) properties.

          I repeat: Don't just pray for money. 

          They'll become burdens, not blessings. 

          Instead, pray for money machines that produce the money.

Two Components of Financial Wealth

          Friends, let me define what Financial Wealth is to you.

          Financial Wealth is not money. Or property. Or stocks. Or jewelry. Or houses. Or cars.  All those are simply fruits of wealth but not wealth itself.

          In fact, I believe wealth consists of two things.

          First, having a mindset to create money.

          Second, having an ability to create money.

          This is what wealth is all about.

          Some people are confused. 

          They think that wealth means golden eggs. 

          But wealth is not owning golden eggs.

          Wealth is owning the chicken that lays the golden egg.

          Some people think rich people have Rolexes, BMWs, and expensive clothes.

          No. All these are golden eggs. (Some of them have borrowed those golden eggs and are paying huge interests!)

          It's not how many golden eggs you have.

          It's how many chickens you have that can lay golden eggs.

May your dreams come true,

My Prayers for Pope Francis

Umalis na si Pope Francis kaninang umaga.  And during my quite time with the Lord, I ask myself.  Ano ba ang epekto sa akin ng pagbisita ng Santo Papa?  All his messages are beautiful, it keeps my FAITH alive.  Isa ako sa libo-libong tao na na-antig ang damdamin sa kanyang pagpunta dito.  Sa kanyang pag-alis ay nananatili sa akin ang kanyang aral.  Sa lahat ng mga sinabi nya tungkol sa mga lider ng simbahan sa, pamunuaan ng gobyerno, sa mga pamilya, sa kabataan at sa mga biktima ng unos ito ang tumatak sa isip at puso ko.   

"Live and Love like JESUS."  

"Think, feel and do in harmony"

At syempre hindi ko nakalimutan ang kanyang request sa ating mga Pilipino. "Please pray for me!" It's true that Pope really need our prayers.  And so I dedicate my quite time for him.  And here are my prayers for Pope Francis.

I praise to you Oh Lord for this day.

I would like to spend my quite time with you talking about Pope Francis.  Lord Jesus, thank you!

Thank you for bringing Pope Francis to the Philippines.  You have given him a good health as he perform his spiritual journey to us Filipinos.  Transportation, security and weather conditions are full of grace as he does his schedules.   Pope Francis is a mirror of HUMBLENESS, JOY, COMPASSION and FAITH to us.  He brought unexplainable joy in our hearts.  Every time we see him on motorcades, encounters and on TV he brought tears with a fast-beating hearts that is full of happiness.  I can't explain the pleasure, I just weep while smiling.  I am so grateful for making his time with the victims of typhoon Yolanda.  Kahit na sandaling panahon lang yun, malaking bagay yun sa kanila.  Because they felt that GOD is there.  They feel the HOPES of moving on little by little because of the FAITH that Pope is telling them.  You allow also Pope Francis to meet with families, youth, religious and government leaders.  Your teachings were very well-delivered by Pope.  GOD.....you spoke with us through Pope Francis.  During his preaches I saw you in him.  Thank you for bringing your message to us.  You blessed him with WISDOM, KNoWLEDGE, RIGHT JUDGEMENT, UNDERSTANDING, COURAGE, REVERENCE and WONDERS.  We Catholics have big FAITH but you know that we need it to strengthen and deepen.  Through POPE Francis, you made our faith alive and gave us more meaning with compassion and mercy.  He emphasized that you.... JESUS..... is our LORD and you're with us in every struggle that we have.  He kept our faith burning and it will continue burning forever.

Lord, JESUS, bless Pope Francis with strength, physically and spiritually.  Please help him to take good care of himself.  Always give joy to his heart and never remove the joyful smiles on his face.  Continue to bless him with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.  Protect his HOLINESS.  Continue to guide him on telling the world of your LOVE.  And keep him away from temptation.

Bring him safe to his home.

We will never forget him. You LORD is so great because you always surprise us with your mercy.  

Always bless us Filipinos.
